Instructions for Firewall Users/Administrators

Background

Remote access to Library resources at UNC Chapel Hill is provided via the EZproxy server. The UNC implementation of EZproxy uses the ProxyByHostname option which means that all browser requests to the server go through port 80.

Firewall Configuration

The firewall should be configured to accept requests from the following hosts and ports:

libproxy.lib.unc.edu 80
proxy.lib.unc.edu 80

Note: Some firewalls require a numeric IP address for their tables. The proxy server host name is an alias for several machines providing redundant services. If you require numeric IP addresses, please enter ALL of the following in your tables:

152.2.62.7 80
152.2.71.152 80
152.2.71.189 80
152.2.181.221 80

Each firewall implementation has a distinct management interface and table structure. Because of these differences, the Libraries cannot provide detailed instructions for your implementation. Please refer to your user manual or contact your vendor for assistance.
